EXPLORING THE REAL STREETS OF BELFAST

CORNMARKET

Cornmarket, originally known as The Shambles and later as the Corn Market, connects High Street to Arthur Square.

It is famous as the location where Henry Joy McCracken was hanged for his part in the rebellion of 1798. In 1689 three soldiers were shot by order of a court martial as they had been found guilty of murdering two seamen in the street.
