Mural By Neisha Azzopardi

MIYAZAKI

Miyazaki, IA Evergreen Street, Cork (021) 4312716 [ Mural By Neisha Azzopardi ]

The mural at the side of the building caught my attention and to the best of my knowledge the artist responsible is Neisha Azzopardi. There was a badly run-down Chinese restaurant known as the Yangtze River at this address the last time I photographed the area in and around the old fort.

This area was once a warren of lanes which had some of the worst housing conditions in the city of Cork. In the 1920s Cork Corporation began a programme of slum clearance which demolished many old lanes. The former residents of the lanes were then housed in council houses in the suburbs.

In case you are wondering, this new restaurant is receiving rave reviews.
