A FLAGSTAFF OF DOUGLAS FIR ERECTED MAY 16 1864

According to Google Maps this is the Captain Frederick Hanson Monument but I cannot find any information relating to the Captain and I cannot find any reference to such a monument. All that I can determine is that a flagstaff of Douglas Fir was erected at this location on the 16th of May 1864. This is located neat the Shandon Boat Club on the Marina in Cork City.
