HAGS WITH BAGS BY JACKIE McKENNA

HAGS WITH BAGS BY JACKIE McKENNA

I did not take many photographs today [11-11-2019] as it was too cold for me.

I do not know why this installation featuring two bronze women and their shopping is located near the Halfpenny Bridge but I do know that it is known locally as "The Hags With The Bags". It might even be an advertisement from Arnotts which is nearby [see the bags].

It has taken me many years to find its official name and the name of the artist. It is “The Meeting Place Statue” and it was sculpted by Jacki McKenna in 1988. As a matter of interest the Bronze Cow near the Jervis Shopping Centre was created Jackki McKenna ... I really like it.

Jackie McKenna is known throughout Ireland for her many public sculpture commissions. For many years, until around 2005, McKenna focused on commissioned sculptures. She has done a number of sculptures in public view and enjoys the conversations and criticisms that occur as a result. She is a co-founder of the Leitrim Sculpture Centre in Manorhamilton.
