K6 TELEPHONE KIOSK AS IT WAS IN MAY 2018SOME OF THE WEEDS HAVE BEEN REMOVED

The phone kiosk in my photograph is an example of a 1936 K6 'Jubilee Box' and it is listed. It is a pity that it is not better maintained.

In May 2018 there was still a Bike-Sharing docking station beside the classic red phone kiosk but there were already signs that the Phone Kiosk was being neglected and not well maintained.

When I visited in 2017 and 2016 I noted that the area was badly run down and that there were many weeds growing beside the kiosk and the docking station.

In the first four years of the Dublin Bikes scheme, only 12 bikes were stolen or damaged but in Belfast within the first two years Some 210 of the 576 bikes in the fleet (36 per cent) had either been stolen or have had to be taken out of service due to vandalism. Photos have appeared online showing several bikes which had been dumped in the River Lagan, while in one case, a bike was sawn in half.

Belfast Bikes is a public bicycle rental scheme which has operated in the city of Belfast since April 2015. At its launch, the scheme, which was then sponsored by Coca-Cola HBC, used 300 Unisex bicycles with 30 stations.

Unfortunately, many of the buildings on North Street are in poor condition and over they years the Ulster Architectural Heritage Society have tried their best to have many of them listed but in many cases they have failed.

The buildings at 95-107 North Street, Belfast which date back more than 100 years were demolished over a weekend at the beginning of December 2016.
