FORMBY - CONNINGBEG MEMORIAL

FORMBY - CONNINGBEG MEMORIAL WATERFORD CITY

More than a year ago I photographed this memorial and the same two men and their dogs

When I visited the memorial on the 26th. two men and their dogs were sitting on the nearby bench. When I got home and looked at photographs from my July 2018 visit I noticed that the same two men and dogs were in some of my photographs.

Formby-Conningbeg Memorial: Honours the memory of those lost when two Waterford steamers SS Conningbeg and SS Formby were torpedoed in December 1917.

These vessels were sister ships, both homeward bound to Waterford from Liverpool in December 1917. They were torpedoed by the same U Boat within days of each other, with a total loss of 83 lives.
