CAPTAIN CLOONEY MEMORIAL IN BALLYBRICKEN



This memorial , which has recently been restored and repaired, in the churchyard attached to Ballybricken church, commemorates Waterford born Captain Patrick Clooney who gave his life at Antietam on 17 September 1862 in the American Civil War. He fought on the side of the Union. One face of the memorial lists the Papal Battles in which Clooney fought: Castlefidardo, Spoleto and Perugia. Another face lists the Battles in which he fought with the Army of the Potomac: Manassas, Malvern Hill, Fair Oaks, Gaines Mill and Antietam
