RAHEEN IN LIMERICKI GOT THE 304 BUS TO THE TERMINUS STOP 607821 IN RAHEEN

It started to rain so I got on a bus, at random, and ended up in Raheen and, to be honest, I had expected the destination to be a bit more interesting than it actually was. The upside was that I had a great discussion with the bus driver who gave me a lot of advise regarding places of interest on the bus routes.

The bus stop was at St. Nessan's Church which is described as follows: "This Gothic Revival style church retains a strong sense of its original formal design. The imposing and dramatic church, located at a busy junction near to Limerick City, dominates the streetscape illustrating the church's position within the community. The building exhibits architectural and artistic merit in the stone carving and details as well as the stained glass windows. The church is dedicated to Saint Nessan. It was built for Fr. Jeremiah Halpin, and completed for Fr. Michael Casey. Stone over church door inscribed: 'Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam. Et in Honorem Sancti Nessan. 1845-1945'. Plaque to north extension reads: 'St Nessan's Church. Restored and Extended 1992. Most Rev. J. Newman Bishop. V. Rev. Joseph Dempsey PP'."

Raheen is a suburb of Limerick, Ireland. Initially developed to ease population overspill from the city of Limerick, Raheen is socioeconomically diverse, ranging from older, poor class housing estates to relatively affluent areas.

The oldest parts of the area were built in the 1960s and 1970s. In the following years, Raheen and neighbouring Dooradoyle both experienced growth, particularly during the Celtic Tiger.

The local economy is highly dependent on light and heavy industry based at Raheen Business Park. It is the home of many international companies, and multi-national concerns with premises there include Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Analog Devices, Dell, Banta, ON Semiconductor, Stryker Corp. (formerly Howmedica), RRD GTS, and Emutex. The Dell manufacturing plant was one of the largest employers in Limerick prior to its closure in January 2009, which dealt a major blow to the economy of the greater Limerick area. The former Dell plant has since been taken over by Regeneron.

The radio station Spin South West and an Irish National Training and Employment Authority centre (formerly FÁS) operate from the Raheen Industrial Estate. The Industrial Estate Estate is divided into two sections, the old section entrance is on the Raheen Roundabout (R526 St Nessan Road and R510) the Second Entrance is on the New Section with its entrance on the M20.
