THE BLACK BRIDGE ACROSS THE SHANNON RIVER [PLASSEY HOUSE]
I was really disappointed when I discovered that I could not cross this bridge especially as I had walked a long distance [all the way from the centre of Limerick] to get to it.

I came across what I thought was a detailed description and history of this bridge at the following site wiki.csisdmz.ul.ie/wiki/Guinness_Bridge_%28Over_the_Canal%29. But it soon became obvious that this is not the Guinness Bridge Over The Canal. It is in fact the Black Bridge across the Shannon river. They used the wrong photograph.

I was further confused as the Guinness Bridge is also known as the Kevin Hannon or The Kevin Hannan bridge.

“The Black Bridge over the River Shannon at Plassey was closed again this week by Limerick County Council after some people had removed the barricade put up by the council, which does not want people to use it because of safety concerns. The bridge was closed by the council last November following the torrential rains, but the structure, which dates to 1840, was reopened at the end of March by persons unknown.”
