☕ The Teapot Memorial: A Unique Tribute
I generally try to avoid photographing recent graves but I was compelled to capture this one because of the unusual memorial featuring a teapot.
The distinctive gravestone for Thomas (Tommy) Thompson, located in Glasnevin Cemetery, has been noted in discussions about the site; however, this was my first time seeing it, and I must say that I find it very appealing.
The memorial also bears the inscription, "Remembered By Your S JoG Friends." This abbreviation, "S JoG," is commonly used for Saint John of God, a charitable organisation that provides health, educational, and social care services. "SJOG" refers to the various services and facilities operated by the Saint John of God Hospitaller Services Group, including the St John of God University Hospital in Stillorgan, Dublin, and numerous community services.
Given that the inscription mentions "Friends" who remembered him, it is highly likely that this refers to acquaintances made through a facility or service associated with the St John of God order. Alternatively, it could refer to former colleagues if Tommy Thompson worked for them, which I suspect may be the case. The teapot is a charming and unique personal touch to this lasting tribute.
