MY 2021 VISIT TO KILKENNY

"Seeing pink elephants" is a euphemism for drunken hallucination caused by alcoholic hallucinosis or delirium tremens. The term dates back to at least the early 20th century, emerging from earlier idioms about snakes and other creatures. An alcoholic character in Jack London's 1913 novel John Barleycorn is said to hallucinate "blue mice and pink elephants".

SCULPTURE IN CONTEXT 2021

This year the organisers will be celebrating the 35th Anniversary of Sculpture in Context and 20 years exhibiting in the Botanic Gardens.

I like to visit the Botanic Gardens and photograph the installations that are featured in the Sculpture In Context exhibition before the event actually begins but the problem is that there is no information available about the artists and their exhibits and it can be difficult to locate all of them.

This year I booked a week in August at the Gabriel in Cork.

With its elevated position, Gabriel House is a beautiful, period guesthouse that looks out over Cork’s cathedral spires and the harbour. Guests can pick out freshly laid eggs for breakfast each morning from the house’s own resident hens. A traditional Irish breakfast is served daily and made from local ingredients, while freshly home-baked breads, biscuits scones are made daily.
