SPHERE WITHIN SPHERE

SPHERE WITHIN SPHERE

Sphere Within Sphere (Sfera con Sfera) is a bronze sculpture by Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro. Some refer to is as the Pomodoro Sphere.

As mentioned in the caption this sculpture is located at the Berkeley Library in Trinity College. Arnaldo Pomodoro, the renowned Italian artist, created the the first of his spheres in 1963. Other variants of this work are on display all over the world, with perhaps the most famous being at the United Nations plaza in New York and the Cortile del Belvedere at the Vatican.

The Berkeley Library, designed by Paul Koralek, opened in 1967 and is widely regarded as one of Ireland’s finest modern buildings. It is so named in honour of Bishop George Berkeley (1687-1753).
