JACKIE BALL AND HER ART

JACKIE BALL AND HER ART

MASQUERADE BY JACKIE BALL [SCULPTURE IN CONTEXT SEPTEMBER 2025]

I made three attempts using three different cameras to photograph this and I am disappointed with the results as it looks much better in real life.

Jackie Ball: Her Art and Career

Jackie Ball is a prominent Irish sculptor and art teacher. Her career is distinguished not only by her own artistic practice but also by her significant contributions to the administration and promotion of sculpture in Ireland.

As an artist, Ball creates three-dimensional works and has been a regular exhibitor at major Irish art events. Her sculptures, such as 'Sanctuary' (exhibited in 2017) and 'White Collar Crime' (exhibited in 2012), demonstrate her long-standing practice. Her work is featured in Irish galleries, such as The Kildare Gallery.

However, her most prominent public role is in arts organisation, where she has become a key figure in sustaining and managing Ireland's largest sculpture exhibition.

Relationship with Sculpture In Context

Jackie Ball's relationship with the Sculpture In Context organisation is foundational. She is not merely a past exhibitor; she is the Chairperson of the event and a central member of its Organising Committee.

What is Sculpture In Context?

Established in 1985, Sculpture In Context is Ireland's largest and longest-running annual sculpture exhibition.

Its primary mission is to showcase three-dimensional art in a public setting, outside the confines of a traditional gallery.

For over two decades, its main venue has been the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, Dublin, where artworks are integrated into the landscape and glasshouses.

The organisation supports artists at all stages of their careers, from emerging graduates to established international sculptors.

Jackie Ball's Role: As Chairperson, Jackie Ball is the public face and a key operational head of the organisation. She is involved in all aspects of the event, from managing its significant funding and logistical challenges to overseeing sales and even contributing to catalogue design.

In this capacity, she acts as both an artist and an advocate, championing the medium of sculpture and working to ensure this pivotal event in the Irish arts calendar continues to thrive. Her dual role as both an administrator for the event and an artist who exhibits within it underscores her deep, long-term commitment to the Irish sculptural community.
