I am aware that local residents in Passage have devoted much time and effort to maintaining the actual park named Tom Fahy[Tom Fahey] park. I have also read some comments on Facebook indicating that they have had some setbacks because of anti-social behaviour.

I first photographed the area in August 2021 and back then it was very run down and there were a number of derelict buildings. I visited again in May 2022 and the immediate to the Tom Fahy park had declined even further.

At first sight Passage West is a very attractive town. However having visited twice within ten months and having photographed at random I noticed that there were many vacant or derelict sites.

According to some reports more than 25% of commercial sites are vacant compared to a national commercial vacancy rate of about 13%. There are some very obvious examples of dereliction or vacancy, especially the old convent and the dockyards.
